WHY

EVERY BODY MOVES

Promote movement as a fundamental form of creative expression and enrich the community through dance appreciation, creation, and education.

Provide opportunities to the community to connect and explore the art of dance via performances, movement exploration classes, masterclasses, and after-school and summer camp programs.

  • Bring world-class dance companies to our community.
  • Support young dancers through scholarships, masterclasses, and performance opportunities.
  • Expand access to live professional dance performances for middle and high school students through our PIVOT Program.
  • Partner with local studios to provide dance education to underserved schools.

Inclusion and equal treatment of all members of the community are core values of the Dance Alliance and central to our mission. DAPPR is committed to diversity in every aspect of its programming and services. Diversity in this context refers to aesthetics, groups, communities, and individuals identified by race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, religion, age, or disability status. DAPPR is committed to honoring, nurturing, and advancing dance through the lens of diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity in all aspects of its programming, services, and organization. Inclusion means a commitment to making all members of the community feel welcome and comfortable.

The Dance Alliance is committed to building a respectful and open community. Our aim is to foster spaces where all members of our community feel welcome and comfortable. As such, negative and inappropriate behaviors are not tolerated, including: verbal abuse, hate speech, physical assault, disrespect, intimidation, or other forms of misconduct.

We reserve the right to refuse service and/or to restrict access to any visitor whose presence or participation jeopardizes the welcoming and inclusive culture we are working to establish, or detracts from the safety, welfare, and wellbeing of other patrons or staff.

The Dance Alliance seeks to create an equitable, inclusive, and diverse community representative of the core values of our organization. Any forms of discrimination based on race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, age, physical or mental disability, or any other grounds are not permitted on the premises or at our events. The Dance Alliance reserves the right, at its own discretion, to reprogram any Dance Alliance activity and to dismiss any individuals or groups who infringe upon this Code of Conduct.

The Dance Alliance of the Pikes Peak Region is the newest evolution of Colorado Springs Dance Theatre, a grass-roots 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has promoted dance in the Pikes Peak Region since 1977. Founded over forty-five years ago by Barbara Kline and a dedicated group of volunteers, Colorado Springs Dance Theatre was a leading presenting organization that showcased professional, world-class dance to the Pikes Peak region, exposing local communities to internationally renowned dance.

Now in its 5th decade of community service, The Dance Alliance has hosted over 114 of the world’s preeminent dance companies including Dance Theatre of Harlem, Paul Taylor Company, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and the Martha Graham Dance Company. More recent seasons included shows by Keigwin + Company, Ailey II, SALT Contemporary, Flockworks, Gaspard and Dancers, DanceAspen, and Chicago Tap Theatre. Additionally, The Dance Alliance has granted over $50,000 in tuition aid to dance students in the Pike Peak Region through our long established Esther Geoffrey Scholarship Competition.

Continuing in our 48-year tradition of bringing world-class performances to our community, we are working on some exciting events for our 2025-26 season. Current season events can be found in our events calendar. Sign up for our newsletter and keep an eye on our social media platforms for announcements of upcoming presentations.

We are committed to the idea that movement and dance are for Every Body and dance can bring enrichment to people in every walk of life. We have partnered with local school districts to create programs getting kids moving and expanding their knowledge of the arts. We are committed to making dance and the arts accessible to all people in our community through scholarships, discounted tickets, & free programming.

Did you know that you can support us while you shop at King Soopers? All you have to do is Download the Kroger App and create an account.

In the app, tap on the three horizontal bars in the upper right corner > rewards > community rewards > search for Dance Alliance and choose the organization. We get a percentage of your normal purchases.

We have some Safeway cards that are ready to be loaded. They too give us 3% of purchases. If anyone is interested in them, please call Emily Murawski, the Dance Alliance Board President at 1-719-205-1313.

How do these cards work? You will get a community card directly from DAPPR that has already been dedicated to us. Then, you can load the card with buying power at a Safeway Service Desk. You would charge the value you want on the community card to your own credit card or you could pay cash. We will get a percentage of what you spend at Safeway when you use that community card to purchase items.
